Welcome to Matangi Island Resort, Fiji Islands. The Douglas family offers their private island beach resort getaway where you will be welcomed as guests and will depart as friends.
Matangi Island Resort - Fiji Islands features only fourteen intimate oceanfront bures, tucked between the cliffs of this beautiful South Pacific island and the aquamarine waters of Fiji's Tasman Straits.
Matangi is one of the South Pacific's best honeymoon destinations and one of the long-established Fiji resorts. Newly refurbished in 2004, Matangi strives to make your Fiji holidays or Fiji vacations carefree and comfortable, by providing services and activities to accommodate your desires.

When you arrive, you will scarcely notice Matangi's beach resort hidden among the many trees and gardens along the white sand beach.
Matangi's 14 individual bures (Fijian style bungalows), each oceanfront, are scattered alongside the beach.
There is a central resort area, where Matangi's dining bure and activities center are nestled within the tropical foliage. From each bure, it is a short walk to the beach, dining or activities center, but far enough from each other to provide the privacy you desire.
Matangi Island Resort Bures
Matangi's bures, each constructed in typical Fijian style, are nestled under swaying South Pacific palm trees and along the white sand beaches of this former plantation island.
This Fiji resort has the appearance of a nicely groomed Fijian village. However, with the amenities of a first class luxury Fiji hotel - where shoes are optional!
Each bure has a large bath area with a hot shower, and is supplied with plenty of fluffy towels. The bures are maintained twice per day, and includes a turn-down service. Hairdryers are available on request.
A comfortable sitting area (separated from the bedroom in the deluxe and treehouse bures) accommodates a mini-bar, always stocked with bottled water, soft drinks, wine, and beer, as well as coffee and tea service.

Slip into a soft terrycloth bathrobes, which you will find hanging in a large closet beside your kingsize bed.
Each night, your bed will be turned down and lacy netting will be elegantly tucked around it like a cocoon.
If the sea breeze is not sufficient to cool your bure, you can use the ceiling fan.
Fiji's traditional architecture and worksmanship of the bures is remarkable.

Perched atop a small hill in a garden overlooking the beach and sea, one double bure is extra large and divided into two sections, perfect for groups or large families. This is a double, Deluxe bure, however, since the units are attached, we offer them at the less expensive Standard bure rate.
Dining at Matangi Island
The traditional Fijian Lali drum announces the meal service (just in case you are too relaxed or too busy to notice). Soon you will become accustomed to the timing of your meals not by your watch, but to the beat of a drum. All of your meals are included in the tariff, and we ensure that you never go hungry.

Romantic Horseshoe Bay is one of the highlights of this beautiful island, offering an unspoiled tropical wilderness, pristine white sand beaches, crystal clear aquamarine waters and a romantic honeymoon getaway.
Matangi Island Resort is close to it's island neighbors, yet far enough away to be very private, quiet and secluded. The closest domestic airport to Matangi Island is on Taveuni Island, a stunningly beautiful 30 minute boat ride away. See the Fiji Map.
Wild orchids, frangipani, hibiscus, ginger plants, palm trees, Pacific Almond trees and an enormous variety of plant life fill the lush tropical gardens surrounding the guest bures at Matangi Island Resort.
The island hosts a variety of tropical fruits such as papayas, pineapples, bananas, avocado pears, mangoes, limes and lemons. Local vegetables such as breadfruit, taro, Fiji's mainstay of cassava(tapioca) and a variety of homegrown vegetables make their way onto salad bowls and dinner plates. Kava, Fiji's native drink, grows on Matangi and its surrounding islands.
Matangi is home to a variety of native birds including the White-Collared Kingfisher, Red-breasted and Musk Parrot, Collared Lory, Pacific Pigeon, Barking Pigeon, Golden Dove, Orange Dove, and Guinea Fowl to name only a few. In addition to the extensive bird life, Matangi is also home to a few cows, goats, pigs and a few wild horses, remnants of a former working plantation.

Matangi Island has been the Douglas family home for five generations.
Originally from Scotland, Matangi's owner's forefathers settled in the Taveuni area to develop and maintain plantations. They grew up here, learning to speak Fijian as their first language, and are intimately related to this land and the resort's neighbors.
